Mijas is a municipality close to the Costa Del Sol, just 35KM from Hostel Aduar Marbella and it offers travelers a unique contrast between holding on to the tradition of their country and adapting to the presence without losing its essence. Walking through whitewashed corners, courtyards, gardens, shrines…the village retains the paused rhythm and charm of yesteryear, sheltered by the mountains and extending the look to the village and sea.
Mijas Village presents a typical physiognomy of the Arab period, extending through the side of the mountain, with its white houses in sharp contrast with the green of the pines offering a beautiful picture, one the most beautiful in the coast.
Besides tourist’s peculiarities such as donkey-taxis, Mijas offers to a visitor various interesting monuments to get to know, such as the Plaza de Toros, two churches in a Mudejar style, remains of the old Arab wall, where you will see beautiful gardens and the interesting sanctuary of the Virgin de la Peña. The church of the Immaculate Conception was built by the Muslims in 836, being converted into a Christian church after the conquest; in 1510 a Moorish-style tower was added. You can see almost any point of the village, located at a higher level.
Mijas village also offers to visitors some interesting museums: El Carromato de Max (museum of the miniatures), the Molino de Harina (flourmill) and Casa de la Villa (historical-ethnographic museum)
